Meet your guest instructor
Stephen Smith is a Bachata and Salsa Instructor with 12+ years experience teaching Latin Dance. This summer, Stephen was on a country-wide tour in which he taught Bachata in 22 cities across 12 states. Prior to his summer tour he has been teaching progressive Bachata programs with Bachata Sensual Orlando, one of the top bachata studios in the country. And prior to Orlando, Stephen ran a dance business on Maui, where he taught Bachata and Salsa for 7 years.
His own training has included extended visits to Spain, birthplace of Bachata Sensual- where he’s trained with renowned artists such as Daniel and Desiree, Sara and Marco, Luis and Andrea, Anastasia and Jovanny, and Korke and Judith.
Hourly Schedule
Saturday
- 2PM - 3PM
- Bachata Building Blocks I
- We explore a set of several core bachata steps - applying weight transfer and hip movement to fully embody the Bachata flavor! On top of this we look at adding syncopations and three types of turns to add some extra spice! All Levels class will be attainable for the beginner but will have enough depth to engage experienced dancers as well! Remember, fundamentals are the foundation, but they are also what allow dancers to reach new levels!
- 3PM - 4PM
- Bachata Building Blocks II
- Here we work to build strong connection in partnerwork. Leaders practice clear and confident leading and follows challenge themselves to get out of their mind and fully into their bodies! Then we use these concept to explore improvisation on the social dance floor! Remember, without strong connection improvisation and play are impossible. All levels class.
- 4PM - 5PM
- Bachata Sensual
- Bachata Sensual is a newer style of Bachata that began in Southern Spain - an offshoot from the traditional Dominican Style. You'll see this style all over social media. In this workshop we will learn body movement, body leading, and smooth transitions between moves that embody this style! All levels.
- 5PM - 8PM
- Break
- 8PM - 9PM
- Evening Bachata Class
- Learn a Fun Pattern with alternate variations appropriate for beginner and more advanced levels! Then use it afterwards at the party!
- 9PM - Midnight
- Latin Night Party
- 60% Bachata and 40% Salsa. Time to cut loose! Join Duluth and Superiors Latin Dance community for an amazing night of dance!
